Redlands Men's Water Polo Hauls in Three ACWPC All-America Nods

Three competitors from the University of Redlands landed on the 2018 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Division III All-America Teams, as announced by the organization earlier today. Senior attacker Grant Curry (San Diego, CA) and sophomore goalkeeper Chris Martinez (Santa Ana, CA) represent the Bulldogs on the Second Team, while junior attacker Spencer Allen (Seal Beach, CA) earns Honorable Mention.  They are all first-time recipients of this excellent award.

Curry concludes his two-year stint with the Bulldogs as their leading scorer with 36 goals and 11 assists in 29 games played during the 2018 campaign.  He scored a hat trick or more on four occasions, with his biggest output coming in a five-goal showing against the University of La Verne to lead the squad to a 14-9 victory.  Overall, he also drew 20 exclusions and nabbed 22 steals in a fine defensive effort. This accolade complements his First-Team All-Conference award.

Martinez provided tenacity and grit between the posts as the Maroon and Gray's starting goalkeeper.  During his second season, he supplied 231 saves and 21 steals in nearly 800 minutes of action.  He eclipsed the 10-save mark in nine games while reaching 17 saves twice.  Overall, Martinez recorded one goal and one assist in a unique offensive performance as well.

Allen enjoyed a solid third season with the Bulldogs by racking up 32 goals and 12 assists to rank second among the team in goals and points (44).  He also drew six exclusions and grabbed 20 steals.  His speed helped him throughout the pool and propelled him to win 43 sprints for a team-high.  Earlier this year, Allen gained a spot on the All-Conference Second Team.

Redlands finished a tough slate against NCAA Division I, II, and III opponents en route to a 14-15 record.
