The University of Redlands men's water polo team received three All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) selections, as voted upon the head coaches of the member institutions. Senior utility player Mitchell Walker (Taylorsville, UT) earned the SCIAC Character Award, while senior attacker Grant Curry (San Diego, CA) represented the Bulldogs on the First Team and junior attacker Spencer Allen (Seal Beach, CA) gained Second-Team honors.
A four-year member of the Redlands men's water polo team, Walker exemplifies the core values of a Bulldog teammate as a hard-working, prompt, reliable, selfless, and caring contributor. During the 2018 season, he consistently played more minutes than any other field player and always faced the challenging task of guarding the opponents' best perimeter player. This year, he tallied five goals and four assists for nine points. Defensively, he supplied 11 steals and four field blocks while drawing five exclusions. He has excelled in the classroom and holds a 3.87 cumulative GPA as a double major in Accounting and Business Administration. Walker already has accepted full-time employment with global accounting firm, Crowe LLP. According to his coaches, he is the epitome of the SCIAC/NCAA Division III student-athlete.
Curry garners his inaugural All-SCIAC award with a First-Team nod in his final season. In 14 conference games, he paced the Maroon and Gray with 21 goals while also chipping in eight assists for 29 points. Defensively, he drew 11 exclusions, registered a team-high 15 steals, and made two field blocks.
Allen also becomes an All-Conference honoree for the first time. He provided a great complement to Curry's offense by tallying 20 goals and nine assists for 29 points in 14 games played. His speed came into play on 30 winning sprints and 11 steals. He also drew five exclusions and put up a pair of field blocks.
This trio of competitors contributed to the Bulldogs' 14-15 overall record and 8-6 showing in SCIAC action.
