Redlands Men’s Water Polo Suffers First SCIAC Loss of Season

The University of Redlands men's water polo team came up short against the visiting Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Wednesday night by a score of 9-12, ending its undefeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) run of matches.

After trailing 2-5 at the half, the Maroon and Gray rallied toward the end of the third period and into the early stages of the fourth, but Redlands could not overcome the deficit.

Just hours after being named the Western Water Polo Association's (WWPA) Men's Player of the Week, senior center Brendan Meany (Palm Desert, CA) registered a team-high three netters.  Six other Bulldogs recorded single scores.  Sophomore goalkeeper Jessie Gunter (Perris, CA) patrolled the Redlands cage and notched 9 total saves in the loss.

The Bulldogs (15-13, 5-1 SCIAC) move into a tie for first place among the conference schools.  They travel to Eagle Rock for their last regular-season SCIAC contest on Saturday, taking on the Tigers of Occidental College at 11 a.m.
