Jake De Vries joins Redlands Tennis Coaching Staff

REDLANDS, Calif. – Director of Tennis Geoff Roche is excited to announce the addition of Jake De Vries as the newest member of his coaching staff for the 2021-22 school year.

Jake De Vries who has experience coaching at both the professional and collegiate levels, has joined the University of Redlands tennis program as an Assistant Coach for both the men and women.

"Jake is an emerging presence in college tennis coaching," Roche explained.  "I am fortunate to welcome him to our coaching staff and I know he will make an immediate impact on both our men's and women's programs.  We are eager to begin our work together to help both of our programs become the best we are capable."

De Vries arrives at the University of Redlands after spending the 2020 season as an Assistant Coach with the Women's Tennis team at USC.  Before that in 2018-19 he was the Graduate Student Manager with the North Carolina women's tennis team. The Tarheels finished third in the country that season with five players ranked in singles (four in the top 21) and two doubles pairs nationally ranked. De Vries led the team's video reviews, charting and tracked match-by-match statistics.

De Vries currently coaches professional tennis player Hayley Carter. Carter, an NCAA All-American from North Carolina, has won one WTA doubles title, three ITF doubles titles and achieved career-high WTA rankings in singles (438) and doubles (71) while being coached by De Vries. He creates her on-court training plans and serves as her hitting partner.

De Vries attended Boston University where he was a member of the men's tennis team from 2013-2017. He earned the Aldo "Buff" Donelli Leadership Award for his outstanding leadership on and off the court and was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

He graduated in the spring of 2017 with a bachelor's degree in journalism and a minor in business administration and management.

"I want to thank Coach Roche and Jeff Martinez for the opportunity to join the Redlands Tennis staff and Athletic Department," De Vries stated. "Coach knows what it takes to be successful at Redlands and in the SCIAC, and I hope I can add to what he has built here and make positive contributions to the on and off-court development of our athletes. I'm excited to get on the court with our players and see what we can achieve this year and beyond. Go Bulldogs!"
