Bulldog Trio Secures All-America Status, Doubles Team Remains in the Hunt at NCAA Tournament

Three Bulldogs from the University of Redlands men's tennis team impressed at the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships for Singles and Doubles on Friday in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Senior Chase Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) opened the competition by knocking off Jeremy Yuan of the University of Chicago (IL), 6-2, 6-2.  With the first-round victory, he becomes an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American for the third time in his career.  He went on to face top-seeded Nikolai Parodi of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in the Round of 16 but fell short in a 1-6, 3-6 showing.

While making their nationals debut, junior Brad Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) and sophomore Brysl Libao (Redlands, CA) faced Alex Cauneac and Tyler Barr from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  With poise and persistence, the Bulldog duo rallied back to win, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4, to gain All-America honors as well with a first-round win.

This is the first time since 2001 that Redlands has had three different men's players earn All-America status in the same year.  View the Bulldogs' complete list here.

Cummins and Libao take on Chicago's Erik Kerrigan and Ninan Kumar in Saturday's quarterfinals at 4:30 p.m. EDT.
