Following a slight weather delay, the University of Redlands men's tennis team jumped into action on Saturday by hosting Concordia University – Irvine and Westmont College in exhibition matches on Verdieck Courts. Despite coming up short in both outings, the Bulldogs showed great heart and talent against the formidable foes. After falling, 0-5, to the Eagles, Redlands suffered a 4-5 heartbreaker to the Warriors.
Against Westmont, the No. 2 tandem of sophomore Brysl Libao (Redlands, CA) and first-year Andrew Yip (Honolulu, HI) prevailed in an 8-4 decision to put Redlands on the board.
The Warriors captured the first two singles wins but Yip answered with his 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 4. Senior Chase Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) followed suit with his 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 triumph at the top slot to make it 3-4.
However, Westmont sealed the deal on the outcome before junior Brad Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) secured his straight-set win, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 6.
Redlands faces No. 21 Brandeis University (MA) on Thursday, February 21, at 2 p.m. on Verdieck Courts.
