With the top-four seeds each hosting the first round on Friday, the No. 11 University of Redlands men's tennis team kicked off the 2017 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship Tournament by squaring off against the Caltech Beavers on Verdieck Courts.  The Bulldogs utilized their depth with an impressive 5-0 showing.

While playing to decision, the Maroon and Gray took care of business in the doubles matches by sweeping the visitors in fine fashion.   The No. 3 duo of seniors Parker Wilson (Carlsbad, CA) and Tom Suchodolski (Amherst, MA) set the tone with an 8-4 effort before junior Joey Dulle (St. Louis, MO) and senior Jake Ly (Torrance, CA) prevailed at No. 1 by a score of 8-6.  Sophomore Chase Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) and freshman Brad Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) completed the sweep by eking out a 9-7 victory at the No. 2 slot.

In singles, sophomore Bryant Johnson (Fair Oaks, CA) kept things rolling at the No. 5 spot with a solid 6-0, 6-2 decision, while sophomore Adrian Nilsson-Redman (Irvine, CA) put this one in the books for the Bulldogs with his 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6.

Redlands (15-6, 7-1 SCIAC) heads to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges for Saturday's portion of the SCIAC Championship Tournament.  The Bulldogs face 12th-ranked Pomona-Pitzer at 9 a.m. in what promises to be an intense rematch of the teams' earlier meeting, which resulted in an incredible 5-4 comeback for Redlands.
