The No. 18 University of Redlands men's tennis team began the 2017 season on the road against the No. 14 Azusa Pacific University Cougars on Saturday morning in a non-conference showdown.  Despite a competitive match, the Bulldogs faltered to the quality NCAA Division II opponent by a score of 2-7.

After coming up short in all three doubles matches, the Bulldogs gained a positive result from senior Parker Wilson (Carlsbad, CA) at the No. 3 position.  He impressed with a 6-4, 6-0 win over the 44th-ranked singles player the Division II.

Senior Jake Ly (Torrance, CA) garnered the Maroon and Gray's only other point with his comeback victory at the No. 5 slot.  After a rough start, he rallied to prevail by scores of 0-6, 7-6, 6-4.

In addition, sophomore Chase Lipscomb (Irvine, CA), who is ranked 25th in Division III, took four games off of the top-ranked player in Division II in a 6-1, 6-3 loss.  Junior Joey Dulle (St. Louis, MO) also showed great heart by taking six games off of the 30th-ranked player from APU in his 6-3, 6-3 defeat.

Redlands (0-1) returns home to the friendly confines of Verdieck Courts on Saturday, February 11, for a 10 a.m. non-conference match against the Concordia University – Irvine Eagles.
