Nick Cummins and Patrick Lipscomb Become All-Americans with Spot in the NCAA Doubles Quarterfinals

Seniors Nick Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) and Patrick Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) of the University of Redlands men's tennis team rallied back to win their opening match of the NCAA Division III Doubles Championships and wrap up a long day on the courts at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio, on Thursday.  Despite being down a set and a break, the Bulldog duo clawed its way back into the match and eventually prevailed over Tyler Carey and Evan Charles of the University of Mary Washington (VA) by scores of 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

The comeback-victory propels Cummins and Lipscomb into the quarterfinals of the tournament, which also results in All-America recognition by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).  Cummins collects his inaugural All-America nod, while Lipscomb receives his fourth such award but his second for doubles.

The full day of competition began with Lipscomb rolling to a first-round win in the NCAA Singles Championships by defeating Carl Reid of Colby College (ME), 6-2, 6-4.  With the victory, Lipscomb collects his third All-America nod for singles.

Later in the afternoon, Lipscomb returned to action in the Round of 16 to face second-seeded Chris Krimbill of Case Western Reserve University (OH).  Unfortunately, Lipscomb's collegiate singles career came to an end with a 6-3, 6-4 loss en route to an impressive 24-8 season record.

Cummins and Lipscomb next face Krimbill and Louis Stuerke of CWRU in the doubles quarterfinals on Friday at 1 p.m. PT in Mason, Ohio.
