No. 19 Bulldog Men's Tennis Cruises by Christopher Newport University, 8-1

The No. 19 University of Redlands men's tennis team welcomed Christopher Newport University (VA) to beautiful Verdieck Courts on Thursday afternoon for a non-conference match.  After sweeping the doubles matches, the Bulldogs cruised to an 8-1 decision over the Captains to collect their fifth win of the season.

Redlands got off to a hot start by unleashing solid victories in match order during the doubles action.  Seniors Patrick Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) and Nick Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) teamed up at the No. 1 slot to take down their counterparts by a score of 8-3.  The No. 2 tandem of seniors Gram Leahy (Portland, OR) and Ted Burchett (Gold River, CA) followed suit with an 8-4 showing, before freshman Joey Dulle (St. Louis, MO) and sophomore Jake Ly (Torrance, CA) secured the doubles sweep with their 8-6 victory at the No. 3 spot.

In singles, the top three effectively took care of business for the Maroon and Gray, clinching the overall win for the team.  Cummins dismissed his No. 2 opponent by scores of 6-1, 6-1, while Lipscomb captured the Bulldogs' fifth and deciding point with his 6-4, 6-4 triumph at the top slot.  Sophomore Parker Wilson (Carlsbad, CA) kept things rolling with a straight-set performance at No. 3, 6-1, 6-4.

Leahy and sophomore Tom Suchodolski (Amherst, MA) also registered positive results for Redlands at Nos. 6 and 4, respectively, leading to the 8-1 tally.

Redlands (5-3) faces the 17th-ranked University of Mary Washington (VA) on Saturday, March 7, at 12 noon on Verdieck Courts.
