After an excellent career as a student-athlete for the Bulldogs, Nico Johnson returned to the University of Redlands in the summer of 2016 to begin his duties as the graduate assistant for the men’s soccer program. In addition to coaching the Bulldogs, Johnson attends the School of Business in pursuit of his Master of Business Administration.

Hailing from Las Vegas, NV, Johnson attended the U of R from 2011-2015 and graduated with a degree in Political Science. He excelled in the classroom, receiving admittance into the Phi Beta Kappa Scholastic National Honor Society.

As a four-year Bulldog starter, Johnson provided solid defense throughout his tenure, earning All-SCIAC First-Team honors in 2014. In addition, Johnson was voted as the recipient of the Bulldog Award, which is a team-selected award that goes to the player who most exemplifies the Bulldog spirit and attitude.

Playing in 23 games his freshman year, Johnson assisted the team in an historical season that culminated in an overall record of 20-3-2 and a 14-0-0 mark in conference. Winning the SCIAC regular-season title and the postseason tournament gave resulted in the Bulldogs’ automatic bid to compete in the NCAA Division III Championships, where they made it to the Sweet 16 in an impressive run.

During the following seasons, Johnson helped guide the team to two second-place finishes in the SCIAC, before recapturing the SCIAC regular season championship in his final campaign.

Johnson’s past job experiences provide him with a diverse set of skills that will ultimately help with being an assistant coach. He worked as a front desk agent at the MGM Grand Hotel as well as a security guard at Hakkasan nightclub. Most notably, Johnson worked as a substitute teacher for nine months in the Clark County School District in Las Vegas before joining the Bulldog staff.

Johnson looks forward to advising and mentoring the men’s soccer program and is excited to see what his team can do in the near future.  He currently resides in Redlands.
