PASADENA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team picked up their first win of 2022 Saturday morning rolling Caltech 5-0.

The Maroon and Grey have been searching for that first victory and they picked up a huge three points within the conference standings improving to 1-1-3, 1-0-1 SCIAC.

After three straight ties and totaling just two goals among those contests the Bulldogs finally found the offense with all five tallies coming from five different players. It was a slow start for UR taking seven shots in the first half with only one finding the back of the net.

Ethan Kovach (Las Vegas, NV), who returned from his one-game suspension due to the red card he gathered against Montclair State found his groove quickly against the Beavers putting away the eventual game-winner in the 24th minute.  Spencer Palmer (San Diego, CA) found Kovach just outside the 18, which he took inside from the left before ripping a curling shot to the top right corner of the net, and according to Assistant Coach Cody Carlson "was an absolute world class strike."

It was only a one-goal deficit at the break, but that's as close as Caltech would get as UR would hold them to just two shots across the final 45:00 minutes, while gathering another four goals that put the game away.  Joseph Parra (West Covina, CA) ignited the second goal a minute into the second period beating his defender to the end line on the dribble before serving a low cross to Jamie Dulle (St. Louis, MO), who received it on the turn before burying it low into the bottom corner.

Four minutes later Skylar Darwen (Los Angeles, CA) got into the mix, also getting help from Parra as he would collect his first collegiate goal.  He was found on the left sideline before cutting inside and curling a low ball on target.  Quinn Richards (San Clemente, CA) made a dummy run in front of the path of the shot and the ball slipped in behind the goalkeeper.

But the offense continued with Richards finding the back of the goal in the 56th minute moving the score to 4-0.  Peyton Menti (Seattle, WA) played a low ball through the Caltech backline, which fed into Richards' run.  He took a touch before poking in a shot past the oncoming keeper, coming from 16-yards out.

The final tally on the day came from David Johnson (Monrovia, CA), who also collected his first collegiate goal, this one coming in the 79th minute.  Nico Mancilla (Pasadena, CA) crossed a nice ball with his right foot from the right side of the box to Johnson who redirected it with a header to the left post.

Seth Lawrence (Redlands, CA) picked up the win, posting his second straight shutout.  He played 59:51, and added a pair of saves.  Redlands outshot Caltech 16-6 and held the advantage on corner kicks 9-4.

Redlands returns home to Farquhar Field next Wednesday, September 21 when they host Occidental College beginning at 7:00pm.
