Redlands Men's Soccer Shuts Out Pomona-Pitzer 3-0 In Final Game of Regular Season

The University of Redlands men's soccer team shutout Pomona-Pitzer 3-0 on the road in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) finale on Saturday afternoon.

It did not take long for the Bulldogs to get going as junior midfielder Collin ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) scored on an open net off of a rebound to put the Maroon and Gray up 1-0 in the eighth minute. Just three minutes later, sophomore defender Peyton Menti (Seattle, WA) headed in a score off a corner kick from first-year forward Ethan Kovach (Las Vegas, NV) to gain a 2-0 advantage.

The Bulldogs neutralized Pomona-Pitzer's offense by only allowing three shots with none landing on target in the first half.

Redlands kept up its aggressive play with a fresh lineup in the second half that ultimately outshot the Sagehens 11-2. Less than five minutes after checking in, first-year forward Dustin Johnson (Monrovia, CA) worked for a shot that landed on net, but the Pomona-Pitzer goalkeeper stepped up to make the save.

However, the Bulldogs' persistence paid off deeper into the stanza as senior midfielder Kalle Sjogrell (Danville, CA) maneuvered his way through the Sagehens' backline to send a low shot to the back of the net for a 3-0 advantage in the 73rd minute.

First-year forward Quinn Richards (San Clemente, CA) nearly scored on a header off of a corner kick a moment later, but the attempt sailed high. Pomona-Pitzer earned one more shot in the 87th minute, but to no avail, completing the 3-0 shutout.

The Bulldogs outshot the Sagehens 19-5, while first-year goalkeeper Adrian Muñoz (Pasadena, CA) earned the shutout.

Redlands (9-4-3, 8-2-2 SCIAC) awaits the final seeding for the SCIAC Postseason tournament that begins on Wednesday, November 6.
