The University of Redlands men's soccer team welcomed the Cal Lutheran University Kingsmen to Farquhar Field for the Bulldogs' first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) game played at home this season. Although the Kingsmen jumped on the board first, the home team remained relentless and ultimately surpassed Cal Lutheran in the first half en route to a 2-1 final score.

Cal Lutheran took advantage of a broken defensive play early in the stanza to go ahead, 1-0, only five minutes into the contest.

However, this motivated the Bulldogs to play with new energy, as they quickly answered back.  In the 15th minute, senior forward Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR) psyched out the defenders with some fancy footwork in the box before crossing it in front of the goal for senior midfielder Casey ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR), who blasted it to the far side of the net for the 1-1 equalizer.

Just four minutes into the restart, ChubbFertal had another good look, as he headed the ball towards the goal and forced the Cal Lutheran keeper to make a save. Senior midfielder Alexander Knox (Seattle, WA) found the loose ball and blasted it through the posts for the eventual game-winner.

Thanks to the stingy Redlands defense of senior Ben Thompson (Spokane, WA), juniors Spencer Scott (Beaverton, OR), and Nick DeQuiroz (San Jose, CA), and sophomore Toshi Kosins (Tokyo, Japan), senior goalkeeper John Melito (Keller, TX) only had to make one save during the remainder of the game.

The Bulldogs (3-3-0, 3-0-0 SCIAC) look forward to hosting the University of La Verne on Saturday, September 16, for a 7 p.m. start on Farquhar Field.
