Bulldog Men's Soccer Earns Trio of NSCAA All-West Region Honors

It was recently announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) that three University of Redlands men's soccer players earned NSCAA Division III All-West Region accolades following the program's 13th regular-season conference championship and first NCAA Championship berth since 2011. Junior defender Tom Elsea (Mission Viejo, CA) and sophomore midfielder Casey ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) were named to the Second-Team list, while sophomore forward Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR) collected Third-Team recognition for their success on the field during the Bulldogs' a 17-4-2 overall showing.

After quarterbacking a feared defensive unit for three years, Elsea earns his inaugural All-Region selection in his final campaign with the Bulldogs. In 22 games started, Elsea manned the center-back position with a dominant presence en route to the team's 0.97 goals-against average. Throughout the season, Elsea contributed to seven shutouts and 13 wins while allowing only no more than one goal. In addition to his defensive prowess, Elsea excelled on the offensive end by netting five goals, with one serving as a game-winner. Earlier this season, Elsea was named to the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) First Team.

ChubbFertal gains his first-career All-Region nod following a season during which he manned the midfield with an incredible sense of awareness and dynamic ability to open the field for offensive flow. Being one of the most multi-faceted competitors on the pitch, ChubbFertal tallied six goals and six assists to equal 18 points. His clutch abilities were evident by his four game-winners and successful penalty kick. He also displayed a unique ability to pump the ball into the box, especially with his effective throw-ins that created excellent scoring opportunities. Additionally he was named to the All-Conference First Team as well.

After serving as one of the more potent offensive weapons for the Bulldogs, Boone takes home his inaugural All-Region recognition to cap off a stellar sophomore season. Boone was dynamic in the attacking third by tying for first on the squad in goals with seven and assists with six to equal 20 points. He stepped up in big moments by nailing three game-winning scores and amassing a .506 shots-on-goal percentage. Earlier this season, Boone landed on the All-SCIAC First Team.
