The University of Redlands men's soccer team celebrated Senior Night with a 4-0 victory over the visiting Tigers of Occidental College on Wednesday at Farquhar Field.
Just hours after being named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Male Athlete of the Week, junior forward Jamie Griffin (Seattle, WA) kept up his recent hot streak by netting his ninth goal of the year less than 10 minutes into the game. Junior forward Cody Carlson (Burbank, CA) and junior defender Sean Cruz (The Woodlands, TX) provided the consecutive assists on the play.
Early in the second stanza, senior midfielder Ethan Low (Langley, WA) struck a sweet free kick from about 35 yards out to connect with junior defender Danny Day (Beaverton, OR), who headed the ball into the back of the net for his second score of the 2010 campaign.
Redlands notched its third goal of the game as senior midfielder Gilbert Flores (Woodlake, CA) recorded his 12th overall point of the season. Sophomore midfielder Gabe Ramirez (Pasadena, CA) increased his SCIAC-leading assist total to eight in the process.
With six minutes remaining, the Bulldogs finalized the contest when sophomore forward Alex Laughton (Pleasanton, CA) fired his own rebound past the Tiger goalkeeper.
Freshman goalkeeper Andreas Silva (San Jose, CA) held down the fort for the Maroon and Gray, registering a complete game shutout.
During the regular season, the Bulldogs played exceptionally well at Farquhar Field, recording a home record of 8-0-1.
Redlands (11-2-2, 10-1-2 SCIAC) wraps up the regular season on Saturday with a road game against the Poets of Whittier College at 7 p.m. Regardless of the outcome, the Bulldogs look forward to hosting a SCIAC Postseason Tournament semifinal game on Thursday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m.
