No. 9 U of R Men's Golf Battles to 15th Place on Opening Day of NCAA Championships

Paced by senior Cade Lawson (Lake Oswego, OR) and junior Jake Hollander (Peterborough, NH), the No. 9 University of Redlands men's golf team finished the first day of the NCAA Championships in 15th place.  While competing on the Keen Trace Golf Course in Nicholasville, Kentucky, on Tuesday, the Bulldogs registered a combined score of 306, which is just six strokes out of the top 10.  

Lawson and Hollander each shot a 75 to land in a 19-way tie for 42nd. Lawson impressed with birdies on three of the four par-five holes en route to four birdies on the day.  Hollander enjoyed birdies on holes seven and eight while shooting even par on 11 holes.

In a 21-way tie for 60th, junior Cameron Cooper (Seattle, WA) recorded two birdies to finish the opening round with a score of 76. Senior Alex Stroes (San Marcos, CA) and first-year Kyle Sharp (Austin, TX) each signed their scorecards with an 80 to land in a 17-way tie for 123rd. Stroes birdied the par-five second hole, while Sharp knocked in a birdie on the 16th hole.

Redlands strives to climb the leaderboard during round two on Wednesday, May 15, when it tees off at 12:50 EDT.  After the completion of tomorrow's competition, the top 18 teams will make the cut to remain in the tournament.
