No. 8 U of R Men's Golf Climbs into Second Place at the SCIAC Championship Tournament

With consistency and determination, the No. 8 University of Redlands men's golf team moved up two spots on the team leaderboard during day two of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship Tournament at the Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena.  With four players finishing the day in the top nine, the Bulldogs shot a 293 for second place with 18 holes remaining.

In the aggregate conference standings, Redlands sits in second place with a six-round tally of 1,765 strokes, while CMS owns a slim, one-stroke lead at 1,764.  With one round to go, the University of La Verne slipped into third place with a score of 1,766. 

During Friday's action, senior Alex Stroes (San Marcos, CA) made an 11-spot jump into a tie-for-third-place by shooting a 70 for a 36-hole total of 143.  He shot minus-one for an average of 2.86 on the par threes and a minus-four score of 4.20 on the par fives.  So far, he has tapped in five birdies and 25 pars in a fine showing.

Junior Cameron Cooper (Seattle, WA) also climbed the individual leaderboard from 17th to tied-for-fifth with a solid round of 71 for a two-day total of 145.  He also shot minus-four on the par fives for an average of 4.20 and currently leads the Bulldogs with 10 birdies.

With each entering the clubhouse with a 76, first-year Kyle Sharp (Austin, TX) and senior Cade Lawson (Lake Oswego, OR) remain in a tie-for-ninth through two rounds at 148.  Sharp impressed on the par fours with an even tally through two days of action.  In addition, he has 23 pars thus far.  Lawson scored minus-two on the par fives for an average of 4.60 while sinking 21 pars overall.

Junior Jake Hollander (Peterborough, NH) moved up three spots into a 14th-place tie with a round-two score of 76.  He shot minus-three on the par fives for an average score of 4.40. He also owns six birdies and 19 pars so far.

Finally, junior Diego Cortes (Santiago, Chile) battled through a tough day with an 81 for a 155 to enter a 26th-place tie.

Redlands hits the links at Brookside Golf Club for the final round of the SCIAC Championship Tournament on Saturday, April 20.  The Bulldogs' first tee time is set for 8:52 a.m.
