No. 9 U of R Men's Golf Rallies for Third-Place Finish at SCIAC Tournament No. 2

The No. 9 University of Redlands men's golf team rallied back with a strong second round to secure a third-place finish at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament No. 2 in the final event before the conference championships. After the opening round, the Bulldogs sat in fifth place but bettered their next 18 holes for 297 to pace the field and clinch a third-place finish with a total score of 606.

Senior Cade Lawson (Lake Oswego, OR) gained a three-stroke improvement with scores of 76 and 73 to jump up 11 spots on the leaderboard for fourth place with a 149 total. Finishing three strokes behind Lawson, junior Jake Hollander (Peterborough, NH) improved six spots to claim a sixth-place tie with a 36-hole tally of 151 (76-75).

In a 12th-place tie, first-year Kyle Sharp (Austin, TX) shot a 78 and a 75 for a final score of 153. Rounding out the Bulldogs' top five, junior Cameron Cooper (Seattle, WA) and junior Diego Cortes (Santiago, Chile) each signed their scorecards with a total score of 161 to tie for 32nd place. Cooper recorded rounds of 79 and 82, while Cortes improved on day two to sign his scorecard with a 77.

Redlands prepares for the three-day SCIAC Championship Tournament, which is hosted by Whittier College at the Industry Hills Golf Course, on Thursday, April 18, through Saturday, April 20.
