No. 9. Bulldog Men's Golf Nabs Second-Place Showing at West Cup

The ninth-ranked University of Redlands men's golf team took on the formidable competition at the annual West Cup on Monday and Tuesday at the Sierra La Verne Golf Course. While improving their score each round, the Bulldogs captured a second-place tally of 883 off scores of 296, 294, and 293.

Junior Jake Hollander (Peterborough, NH) paced the squad with a 54-hole total of 220 to tie for third overall.  He began the event with a solid 75 but shaved off strokes each subsequent round for scores of 73 and 72.  He recorded an eagle, eight birdies, and 32 pars in an impressive effort that also included a minus-three average of 4.75 on the par fives.

Seniors Cade Lawson (Lake Oswego, OR) and Alex Stroes (San Marcos, CA) teamed up in 10th place by notching totals of 222.  Lawson's score came off rounds of 74, 75, and 73 and was highlighted by nine birdies over the course of the tournament.  Stroes ranked second in the field with 11 birdies and signed his scorecard with a 74 each round.

With 34 pars, junior Cameron Cooper (Seattle, WA) closely followed in a tie for 19th place with a tally of 227 off rounds of 73, 80, and 74.  In addition, first-year Kyle Sharp (Austin, TX) earned a 228 to tie for 22nd.  His best score came in the second round when he notched a 72.  Overall, he tallied 32 pars in 54 holes.

Redlands heads to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC Tournament No. 2 on Saturday, April 6, and Sunday, April 7, at the Industry Hills Golf Course.
