No. 10 Redlands Men's Golf Takes Sixth as Highest Division III Finisher at Coyote Classic

Amidst an NCAA Division II-heavy field of competitors, the No. 10 University of Redlands men's golf team finished as the highest Division III program at the Coyote Classic on Monday and Tuesday at Oak Valley Golf Course.  With a 54-hole total of 890 (295-305-290), the Bulldogs came in sixth overall in the standings.

Senior Alex Stroes (San Marcos, CA) paced the Maroon and Gray with his fifth-place showing that came off of consistent rounds of 71-72-72 for a minus-one total of 215.  Over the two days, he registered a minus-four 3.87 on the par fours and recorded 39 pars in a solid performance.

First-year Kyle Sharp (Austin, TX) tied for 15th place with a score of 220 (72-78-70) that included one eagle and a minus-four 4.67 on the par fives.  Senior Cade Lawson (Lake Oswego, OR) remained consistent with rounds of 76, 75, and 76 to tie for 30th place with a 226. He impressed as the Bulldogs' best par-three scorer at minus-one 2.92.  He also tapped in 10 birdies over the two days. 

Also among Redlands' top five, juniors Dylan Merchant (Ellsworth, WI) and Cameron Cooper (Seattle, WA) each finished the tournament with a 54-hole tally of 230 to land in a tie for 41st.  They each recorded a round of 74 during the event.

Furthermore, junior Jake Hollander (Peterborough, NH) signed his scorecard with a 234 (78-82-74) that included 34 pars, while junior Diego Cortes (Santiago, Chile) knocked in nine birdies en route to a total of 236 (75-85-76).

Redlands heads to the first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament on Saturday, February 23, and Sunday, February 24, at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills.
