U of R Men's Golf Paces the Field in First-Place Performance at MCU Invite

The No. 15 University of Redlands men's golf team spearheaded its way to a first-place finish at the Marymount California University Fall Invite on Monday and Tuesday with impressive results. Every Bulldog finished among the top 13 to finish with a 54-hole score of 847, which ranks as the lowest three-round score for the Bulldogs in more than 10 years. In addition, junior Jake Hollander (Peterborough, NH) turned in a career-best tally of 201 for medalist honors.

As a team, Redlands shot 13 strokes better than second-place Menlo College.  The Bulldogs fired off better scores each round and finished with a remarkable 276 on Tuesday afternoon.

Hollander came out of the gates hot to shoot a tournament-low score of 66 in the first round. He kept his focus through the next 18 holes with a 68 before entering the clubhouse on a 67 for a career-low 201. His total was nine strokes better than the second-place finisher.

Senior Alex Stroes (San Marcos, CA) posted a [RD1] three-round tally of 214 to land in a three-way tie for sixth. He progressively improved his score throughout the tournament, as he matched his career-low of 67 in the final round. Junior Cameron Cooper (Seattle, WA) closely followed Stroes by improving his scores with rounds of 73, 72, and 71 for a 216 to finish even in a two-way tie for 12th place.

Senior Cade Lawson (Lake Oswego, OR) and first-year Kyle Sharp (Austin, TX) completed the team's stellar two days on the links with scores of 218 to tie for 14th. Lawson moved up the leaderboards during by shaving off four strokes from start to finish, while Sharp remained fairly consistent over the course of the tournament.

After completing the fall portion of its season with a bang, Redlands looks forward to teeing off the spring slate at the CSU San Marcos Fujikara Invitational on Monday, February 4, and Tuesday, February 5.
