The No. 26 University of Redlands men's golf team completed the first of three rounds of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship Tournament on Sunday at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills.  With consistency throughout the lineup, the Bulldogs fired off a solid 295 during the opening round to tie for first with the No. 22 University of La Verne.

In the aggregate scoring, the Maroon and Gray remains in third with two rounds remaining.  However, the team inched closer to second-place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with an eight-stroke difference now in sight.  La Verne sits atop the standings with a 20-stroke advantage over the Bulldogs.

During Sunday's opening round, sophomore Alex Stroes (San Marcos, CA) and freshman Cameron Cooper (Seattle, WA) led the Maroon and Gray by each signing their scorecards with a 73 to tie for fourth in the individual standings.  Stroes recorded 13 pars and two birdies while co-leading the field in par-three scoring with an even 3.00.  Cooper tallied four birdies on the day.

Sophomore Rowan Foxley (Arlington, WA) closely followed with a 74 that included three birdies to tie for eighth.  Junior George Galanis (Glencoe, IL) notched a 75 to tie for 12th while also recording a field-best 3.00 on the par-threes.  He had 11 pars on the day in a fine showing.

Sophomore Cade Lawson (Lake Oswego, OR) recorded an opening score of 78 with 11 pars, as freshman Dylan Merchant (Ellsworth, WI) entered the clubhouse with an 84.

Redlands returns to action for round two on Monday, April 24, with late-morning tee times at Los Serranos.
