REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Football team put on a clinic Saturday afternoon rolling Whittier College 58-14 sending the 24 seniors off on a high note.

The Bulldogs end 2022 4-6, 4-2 SCIAC, winning three of their last four, while posting their highest point total on the season against the Poets.

Prior to the game Head Coach Jim Good recognized his 2022 Senior Class, which included Kenny Woods (Sacramento, CA), Myles Herrera (Redlands, CA), Jadin Michaels (Palm Springs, CA), Andrew Kellstrom (San Bernardino, CA), Derwin Johnson (Indio, CA), Aidan Shinfeld (North Hollywood, CA), Scott Tinsley (Capitola, CA), Michael Mindnich (Bellingham, WA), Jack Wilson (Elk River, MN), Joseph Barnes (Gilroy, CA), Dre Owens (Pico Rivera, CA), Evan Powell (Eugene, OR), Marvin Perkins Jr. (Las Vegas, NV), Kamdin Karmann (Riverside, CA), Jacob Sega (Oceanside, CA), Luke Purcella (University Place, WA), Devin Escobedo (Jurupa Valley, CA), Michael MacDonald (Chino Hills, CA), Nikko Contreras (Ontario, CA), Mikey Duran IV (Ceres, CA), Kaleb Hatten (Modesto, CA), Brady Roy Welch (Wilcox, AZ), Dawson Brokman (Martinez, CA), and Brendan Marmion (Aliso Viejo, CA).

"I am really happy for the seniors and how we could finish the season off with a game like this," Good explained.  "It was awesome to see several new faces on the field making some great plays including some touchdowns by some long time vets."

Redlands controlled from start to finish putting up 31 points in the first half and another 27 in the second half.  They were 9-of-14 on third-down efficiency totaling 416 yards of total offense with 257 of them coming through the air and another 159 on the ground.  UR averaged 5.8 yards per play and controlled time of possession 31:56-28:04.

Five different quarterbacks saw the field with four of them throwing at least one touchdown.  First Year Tyler Tremain (Folsom, CA) went 12-for-20 for 176 yards and four touchdowns.  Herrera followed with another 59-yards and another score and Wilson and Jordan Ford (Compton, CA) each added another touchdown throw.

Nine different players had a rushing attempt led by Kellstrom with 16 rushes for 89 yards and a score, averaging 5.6 yards per carry.  Troy "TC" Williams (San Diego, CA) ran it eight times for 34 yards, averaging 4.3 yards per rush and Tremain added another 18-yards with his legs.  It was a shared attack through the air with 14 different players catching at least one pass.  Grant Chaney (Upland, CA) had four receptions for 76 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 19.0 yards per catch, Evan Aguon (San Diego, CA) added three catches for 35 yards and Mindnich totaled another two catches for 32 yards and another touchdown.  Hatten needed just one catch for 15-yards to find the endzone twice.  He had one TD reception and then fell on a fumble in the endzone.

Marmion and Vicente Garcia (Fontana, CA) combined for two punts with Garcia sending one for a career long 69-yards, which landed inside the twenty.  Marmion handled kickoffs with nine of them combining for 567 yards, six of which were touchbacks.  On kickoff returns Aguon had two and totaled 67-yards with a long being for 41-yards, averaging 46.5 yards per return.  Joseph Rosales (Goodyear, AZ) also provided a spark on punt returns with two being returned for 93-yards, averaging 46.5 yards per return, a long being for 47-yards.

Defensively the Bulldogs were too much for the Poets limiting them to just 14 points, 268 yards of offense (178 Passing/90 Rushing) and a 38% clip on third-down efficiency (6-for-16).  They recorded an interception, 50 tackles (28 Solo/22 Assisted) from 31 different players, two sacks, four TFL's, three pass break-ups, and a quarterback hit.

Sega finished with four tackles and half a sack, Owens had the interception, Brokman added two tackles and a sack for a six-yard loss, Devean James (Fontana, CA) had two tackles with another sack for a six-yard loss, and Craig Hunter (Murrieta, CA), Jake Green (Redlands, CA), and Mario Jacobs (El Cajon, CA) combined for six tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Redlands needed just 1:52 in the opening quarter to put up points on the board as Tremain found Chaney from 26-yards out.  Eight minutes later UR added another score this time going 84-yards in 15-plays that covered 6:13 as Tremain hooked up with Mindnich.  The final points put up in the period again came courtesy of a Tremain to Chaney connection that ended a quick three-play, 42-yard drive the spanned just :26 seconds.

Whittier broke the run to begin the second quarter to get within two scores, but Redlands was quick to respond as Tremain would hook-up with Hatten for a 15-yard score, followed by a 30-yard field goal from Marmion that pushed the score to 31-7 at the half.  Kellstrom found the endzone on the ground to begin the third quarter for UR, which ended a 7-play, 60-yard drive and Hatten would collect his second score on the day this time picking up a Woods fumble that landed in the endzone for a scoop and score.

In the fourth the Bulldogs weren't done as Powell would find Wilson in the back of the endzone for an 11-yard touchdown reception.  Four minutes later the Bulldogs would put up their final points as Ford found Jadin Dogan (Mill Creek, WA) for a six-yard catch that put the game away.  Both of these drives combined for six plays, 27-yards and 2:26.

Good further explained that "although the season did not go how we expected, with the performance of a number of returning players, we are excited to get back to work this offseason in preparation for 2023.  We have a lot to look forward to and I am so thankful for how hard the players, coaching staff and everyone associated with the program have worked this year."
