Sophomore Quarterback Nathan Martinez Named SCIAC Football Offensive Athlete of the Week

It was announced earlier today that the University of Redlands earned three Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) athletes of the week, including sophomore quarterback Nathan Martinez (Redlands, CA) as the Football Offensive Athlete of the Week.

Martinez stepped in midway through the first quarter and led the Bulldogs to a huge 39-26 victory over Chapman University on Saturday night.  He provided an efficient 16-for-22 passing effort that resulted in 257 yards and three touchdowns.  His long of 74 yards came on his first scoring strike late in the second quarter to put Redlands on the board.  He also scrambled for 83 yards on the ground, including a 33-yard jaunt to set up another touchdown, on 15 carries for an average of 5.5 yards per rush.

In addition, he finished with a 72.7 completion percentage and an efficiency rating of 215.9.

This is the first offensive award for Bulldog football but the fifth overall honor this season.

Martinez joins senior soccer standout Kayvon Parsa (West Hills, CA) and sophomore water polo player Jasen Swan (Glendora, CA) in receiving athlete-of-the-week recognition.  To view all of the SCIAC awards, please visit the organization's website.

Redlands (4-1, 2-0 SCIAC) looks forward to hosting the Stags of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in a 7 p.m. SCIAC game on Saturday, October 13.
