The University of Redlands baseball team answered yesterday's loss with an impressive 10-6 victory over the University of Texas-Dallas in non-conference action on Saturday in Austin, TX.
First-year pitcher Cameron Kundig (Redlands, CA) set the tone early by sitting down the first batter for the first out of the game. The defense took care of the rest and retired the inning with no damage done.
The Bulldogs' bats came to play by scoring five runs in the bottom of the first. Sophomore left-fielder Brennen Carr's (Chino Hills, CA) single got things started with an RBI. With two outs and the bases loaded, the Maroon and Gray pushed another one across on a throwing error from the Comets. On the next at-bat, senior second baseman Eduardo Martinez-Razo (Rialto, CA) knocked a single to right field for two RBI to cap off the lucrative frame.
After putting up back-to-back, three-up-three-down innings, the Maroon and Gray took care of business at the plate with four runs in the bottom of the third. Senior catcher Bart In den Kleef (Oosterhout, Netherland), sophomore right-fielder Cal Bridges (Fremont, CA), and senior shortstop Aaron Singh (Anaheim, CA) each recorded at least one RBI for the Bulldogs.
The Comets made things interesting with five runs in the top of the fourth, but Redlands gained a run from first-year designated hitter Chris Hardin (San Bernardino, CA) in the bottom of the inning for a 10-5 lead.
Although UT-Dallas scored one more run, the Bulldogs stayed in front to avenge Friday's loss with today's 10-6 result.
For the game, Martinez-Razo went 2-for-4 at the plate with three important RBI. Singh was also productive with one hit and two RBI. On the mound, Kundig sat down four batters in six innings to earn the victory.
Due to insufficient light, the Bulldogs' second game of the day was postponed to Sunday, February 17, at 8 a.m. PT. Redlands now faces Concordia University (TX) in a doubleheader, with game one limited to seven innings, instead of a single.
