It was announced earlier this week that University of Redlands senior third baseman Brendan Gardiner (Mission Viejo, CA) and junior shortstop Aaron Singh (Anaheim, CA) were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-America Second Team to cap off their stellar contributions throughout the 2018 campaign. Out of nearly 400 student-athletes among the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Teams, only 50 garnered All-America status.
In addition, Gardiner received All-America Honorable Mention from D3baseball.com for an awesome final season with the Maroon and Gray. Sixty-three student-athletes out of 888 nominations were selected for the 12th-annual D3baseball.com All-America teams.
Redlands is the only school in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) to gain an All-American from either organization this season.
While earning their inaugural All-America nods, Gardiner and Singh follow in the footsteps of senior pitcher Felix Minjarez (Riverside, CA) and senior catcher Rainier Aguilar (San Bernardino, CA), who received the distinction in 2017.
With stellar anticipation, quickness, and skill, Gardiner and Singh provided a dominant presence on the left side of the infield while minimizing the opponents' offense through the 5-6 hole.
This outstanding achievement highlights Gardiner's already impressive list of accolades that includes D3baseball.com All-West Region First Team, ABCA/Rawlings West Region Position Player of the Year, and SCIAC Athlete of the Year. Gardiner also reset the Redlands single-season record with 70 hits while also recording 45 RBI, a .405 batting average, and a .618 slugging percentage. He landed among the top-50 in the country in nine categories, as highlighted by 41 base on balls for 10th and 57 runs scored for 14th.
Singh snags his inaugural ABCA/Rawlings All-America honor after his second-consecutive All-West Region honor from both entities. With 21 doubles this season, Singh currently ranks second in the region and eighth in the nation in this category. He also sits among the top three on the team in multiple categories, including team-bests with five triples and 29 extra-base hits. As the trusty starting shortstop, Singh totaled 150 assists and 65 putouts for a solid .982 fielding percentage.
